COLWYN BAY TENNIS CENTRE CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY
James Alexander Barr Tennis Centre in Colwyn Bay has celebrated their 20th anniversary with a special day of doubles tournaments.
The much-loved Ffit Conwy facility located in the town’s Parc Eirias, officially opened its doors to keen tennis enthusiasts on 18th October 2003. With two indoor courts and four floodlit courts outdoors, it has played host to thousands of coaching sessions and tournaments, plus private hire and holiday clubs.
To mark its anniversary, the Centre, which was named in memory of a sports and recreation officer at Colwyn Borough Council, held a morning of Fast4 Tennis double tournaments for its members on Sunday 22nd October.
16 members played back-to-back games, followed by the presentation of prizes. Winners of the main tournament were Andrew Kirkham and Evelyn Kirkham and runners up Adam Gorst and Hannah Kennedy. The Plate trophy was presented to the winners Aled Roberts and Tania Dupre and runners up
Leon Davies and Mena Hitchings.
Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy County Borough Council
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
“Conwy Council is proud of the role
the Centre has played over the last
20 years in the development of tennis
in the region. The facilities are great for
all users and abilities; whether they are young people who are picking up a racket for the first time and trying out a knock about session, or seasoned tennis enthusiasts. It’s an important objective for us as a Council to provide sporting opportunities at all levels and encourage people to stay active.”
