   are a small spool of common  shing line, which I replace with some cheap zebco  shing reels for the purpose of be- ing able to wind them up easily and for storage. You can see the reels hanging over the edge of the bars. When setting the height, the idea is to set the height of your strings to be in-line with the center of your wheel hub for measuring pur- poses. In the picture of the front end of the car, you can actually see the string attached to the bar and running down the side of the car to the rear bar where the  shing reels hang. Once the basic sys- tem is setup like this, you need to slide those round bars left to right and mea- sure from the center hub of each wheel to make them even left to right. Front measurements may be slightly different than the rear due to differences in wheel track, so just make sure your fronts are the same side to side and the rears are the same side to side. This process squares up the vehicle in the box. (Top L)
Above picture shows checking the left and right measurements of the strings to the center hub of the vehicle. I use a simple steel ruler rather than a tape mea- sure. It is much easier and less cumber- some to use. Walmart....$3.00 (Top R)
The one big difference I am doing here is cheating with what are called hub stands/scales/leveler pads. You can do this with the wheels attached to the car and sitting on the ground as the hub stands are fairly expensive for the home user. When doing this as much as I do, it allows me to set the car up without hav- ing to jack up the car to get to adjustment points (tie rod ends, camber adjustments, etc), lower it, roll the car back and forth, then check your setting again. With hub stands once the car is set on the ground or slip plates/scales, there is no rolling of the vehicle, as the system allows the suspension to slip and slide on the slip plates.... it is just a more ef cient way to do it.
Looking at the picture above, if you are doing it with the wheels on, just imagine that thin metal toe stick you see running left to right if your actual wheel. Your measurements will be off the leading edge and the trailing edge of the wheel for toe. If you are doing this with the wheels on the car, and you decide you need to make a toe adjustment on a cor- ner of the car, due to low clearances you often have to raise the car with a jack,
