I lost out on owning a 1965 356 SC Coupe when I rotated back to the U S in 1965. The Captain who owned it backed out two days before I left Germany. After I got back to the States, I got a 1966 Mustang GT convertible, followed by a 1968 BMW 2002, which ultimately was traded in 1974 for my 911 T.
My T had ~28,000 miles when I got it. It had belonged to a Major at Fort Leavenworth, whose wife wanted a 914 and therefore traded the 911 for a 914. He would have liked to have the 911 back when I talked to him, but he was out of luck as far as getting the T back.
The 911 was driven on a daily basis, rst by myself and then by Joyce to her school. Our kids would ride in the back seat during our adventures around the city, state and Iowa. The 911 was driven around many autocrosses and to many Ozark Week-Ends.
I enjoy doing the various things that I am capable of do- ing, maintenance wise, on the 911. I have won various con- cours over the years and participated in 8 of the 10 years that the “ Art of The Car “ show was in existence. Unfortu- nately, the 911 does not get driven that much anymore. Its future? I probably will pass it along to Sean, my son, so he can add it to his stable of BMWs.

I rst became aware of Porsche (356)
while riding with friends to ROTC
Summer Camp at Ft Sill, Oklaho-
ma in 1960. They all wanted one. My
rst chance to see the Porsche 901 (as
it was rst named) was at the Frank-
furt Auto Show in 1963. Because of a
con ict with Peugeot (a French auto
company), which had a legal right to any car with 3 numer- als and the center one being a 0, Porsche changed the name to 911(even though some parts in my 911 parts book still lists them as 901- xxxxx).
  Fuel Consumption, 26 mpg
Oil Consumption, 1.5 - 2 qts / 600 miles MSRP (Unknown but est $8,000 - $9,000)
