Our club had an event
last Saturday, August 27th, that recognized our members who have served as presidents. If you have been to a Changing of the Guard event, you probably saw the helmet from a different time that holds all the names of the past presidents. There are quite a few names on the helmet. Unfortunately, too many are no longer with us, including a couple of recent ones. Nine presidents, including the present president, Fred Quintana, attended. I was fortunate to attend and enjoyed such a nice tribute.
To start the day, Lani and I were puttering around wondering who would be at the dinner. Coming off Covid times, we haven’t been to a lot of events or seen many of our Porsche friends until recently. We were looking forward to the dinner. Lani asked if I was ready
to go and I said “we have plenty of time, at least an hour”. Then
I looked at my watch and saw it was 25 minutes before tip off and we were on the other side of town and I wasn’t dressed. I had not wound my watch. Yes, I still have a watch that has to be wound and a Porsche that has 3 pedals and doesn’t shift itself. Luckily the freeway was empty and I could, dare I say, make good time! Then no one was on Renner and I could take the roundabouts fast enough to make Lani squirm, while I enjoyed my Porsche C4S.
We arrived at Grand Street Cafe at 6:10 to see a 2 block, double side street by the restaurant that looked like a giant jewel box of various Porsches in a multitude of great colors.
It was a superb event with President Fred Quintana, looking very dapper as Emcee. Fred
