EXCELSIOR SPRINGS
FUN RUN FOR BBQ

Nearly 50 cars and twice that many members showed up for the KCRPCA Fun Run to Excelsior Springs, Missouri on Saturday morning, July 18th. The group met up at the Ameristar Casino at 10:00 am. I was happy to see everyone wearing masks and social distancing, which was easy given that we started the drive from Ameristar’s expansive parking lot.
Driving Chair Mike Rehak briefed the large group on safety and standard operating procedures – “You are responsible for the car behind you!” was the mantra for the day. Fortunately, everyone took that to heart, and as hard as it is to believe, the group remained together for the duration of the Fun Run.
Actually, the group was
so large, that it was split into 2 groups of approximately 25 cars each. KCRPCA Board Members helped out as lead cars and tail-
end Charlies to keep the groups together. It was nice to see a few club members pause at major route turns, making sure the following car could see the group was turning left or right from the current road.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day as the group made its way through the countryside of
eastern Jackson County, Lafayette County and Clay County. There is something about being out for a drive and rolling with the land as it rises and falls.
The landscape was a lush green and the group crisscrossed the rural highways and byways, taking the long way and using up nearly an hour and a half. But no complaints were heard as the pace remained good and the roads were lightly trafficked with challenging curves.
