My situation is a little different than most. While I live in Kansas City, I commute to Washington, DC., for work. Having grown up in the area, I have plenty of friends and family around, so I end up staying about one weekend a month to keep current. That, of course, means that I have to rent a car to get around town, and given my frugal nature, that means usually something cheap. However, even cheap cars run close to $100 for the weekend, so I decided that I should look into buying something that I can enjoy and that gives me the freedom to get away if I need to.
While I didn’t start out looking for a Porsche (ok, that may be a b), I soon decided that I couldn’t really nd a better car for the money. This is my third used Porsche, and I think that my journey is fairly common.

I bought my next Porsche, a 2001 Boxster S from a friend of mine. While I had never really spent any time with the car (we were work acquaintances across the country), I trusted him and knew how he approached his work and his life. We reached a mutually satisfying price and I soon found myself in love with my new car.
So, then, how was I going to approach my current purchase? Dealers are good, but I was looking for something inexpensive. None of my friends in the area had a Porsche, so that wasn’t an option. So I took to the internet, which wasn’t available when I bought my rst car and was still in its infancy when I bought the second. It’s amazing what you see when you type “used Porsche sale” in Google. I ended up spending a lot of time on AutoTrader and CarGuru, sifting through cars, trying to get a handle on the market.
What that really did for me was to get my head into the game and make me come to grips with my budget. Being cheap, I eventually settled
