Here we go again, another of my observations on the
Yamaha Tenere 700 (T700), but this shouldn’t bore you, cuttingedgepaintshop@gmail.com
well I hope not. My initial impressions on the T700 was
published in ‘The Disgraceful Rider’ Magazine of the St off-road. Had to keep reminding myself that it
George Sutherland Branch of the Ulysses Club – April. wasn’t my bike, so extreme off-roading was out of
2020, Pps: 20-21 (Also P: 26). I now had the privilege of the question. Did manage some slides, but only
taking this bike over a different type of terrain than that soft, very predictable controlled ones and as noted
illustrated in that report. To remind yourself of what I before, the power delivery, especially using the
then penned it would be a good idea to read it before torque the motor provided was well above what
going any further. In my April review of the T700 I could be asked for. It was, as a result, well
mentioned that I didn’t have the opportunity to test it manageable and therefore well within my
off-road, well times have changed. Postie Jim had limitations, which was a great bonus to my
organised a trip (Thurs. 15 Oct 2020), which included enjoyment. The Kiwis must know something as the
some dirt and looked appealing. So off I went to City T700 is the best-selling Adventure bike over the
Coast, Wollongong, and on bended knee begged them to ditch – at least so, for this year. The only niggly
let me have a dirt orientated bike – here my luck held little gripes I have with it are:
and they were able to provide me with a T700 – you - Throttle – found it to be a little too touchy, well
beauty! Happy days. Tagged onto Jim’s ride
and did a little dirt with them, however,
regrettably not enough to really test the full
potential of the bike. I therefore left them
to their own devices and managed a little bit
of fun on my own. In particular, attempting
to use the T700 for what it is designed for,
which to be honest was more than likely
way above my capabilities. Though still
loved it and had a ball. The bike did
everything I thought it would. Regrettably,
I’m getting a bit long in the tooth and
couldn’t get anywhere near its full potential,
but I could feel that it was me and not the
bike. But the T700 did much more than I
could have hoped for. It went everywhere I
pointed it to and made everything I
attempted feel so amazingly easy. The back
roads I explored were handled with much
aplomb and it felt close to the perfect
adventure bike for the conditions – it was
          just breathtaking. Overall, the power
          delivery was reasonably smooth, flexible
and the efficient motor felt oh so
impressive. Found the suspension to be
more than adequate for my style of riding,
though possibly a bit on the soft side – OK
for the road, though could be a little better
