INTERSTAGE SKIRT
This truncated cone joined the S-IVB and S-II booster stages and worked as a load-bearing structure..

ADAPTER
The Spacecraft Lunar Module Adapter (SLA) provided protection and structural attachment to the LEM during the launch of the Saturn V rocket.

S–IC BOOSTER STAGE
This stage provided the initial boost to the Saturn launch vehicle. Its five liquid propellant F-1 rocket engines provided acceleration to increase the speed to over 7 000 feet per second.

Instruments
INSTRUMENT UNIT
This aluminum-alloy ring contained the guidance, navigation, and control systems that guided the Saturn V rocket through the Earth’s orbit.
FINS AND FAIRINGS
Fairings were fitted over each of the four outboard F-1 engines to smooth the airflow. Airfoil fins were attached to the fairings.
S–II STAGE
The S-II stage provided a second boost for the Saturn V launch vehicle, powered by five J-2 engine rockets.

INTERSTAGE RING
In addition to its structural support function, the interstages also served as electrical and mechanical interface between the booster stages.

S–IVB STAGE
Retrorocket
Powered by a single J-2 rocket engine, the S-IVB stage was designed to boost its payload twice: to the Earth’s orbit on the first burn and to the moon (translunar injection) on a second burn.
