SERVICE MODULE SECTORS
1 Sector 1: Usually empty or filled with ballast. On Apollo missions 15, 16 and 4
17 it housed scientific instruments.
2 Sector 2: It housed the oxidizer sump tank, which contained about 13 900 pounds of nitrogen tetroxide.
3 Sector 3: It held the main oxidizer storage tank, which had a capacity of 11 280 pounds of nitrogen tetroxide.
4 Sector 4: It contained the Electrical Power System (EPS) and its fuel cells 5 power plants (3). Two oxygen tanks and two hydrogen tanks fed the EPS. The
fuel cells combined these oxygen and hydrogen to generate electrical power
and water.
5 Sector 5: It housed the fuel sump tank (8 700 pounds of Aerozine 50).
6 Sector 6: This sector contained the main fuel storage tank. Its capacity was the
same as the main storage oxidizer tank (11 280 pounds).
7 Tunnel: The center section housed the SPS engine and two spherical helium tanks located one on top of the other. The helium was used to pressurize the oxidizer and fuel tanks that fed the SPS engine.
