Grade 4
Date ......./......./……… • They are natural materials that
are used faster than they can be
 Renewable sources of energy: replaced.

 • They are natural materials that • examples: natural gas, coal,
can be replaced soon after they gasoline and oil.
     are used.

 • examples: sun, wood, wind,
     water and grass.

Formation of coal:

   • Step (1): The living organisms die.
   • Step (2): The dead organisms get buried.
   • Step (3): The dead organisms are affected by heat and pressure.
   • Step (4): The dead organisms change to coal, natural gas and oil.

              Oil and water

              Oil Water

Similarities • Both are used for getting energy
Differences
              • It is a non-renewable • It is a renewable source
                source of energy. of energy.

Generating electricity from fossil fuel

1. Fossil fuel is burned to produce thermal energy.
2. Thermal energy is used to heat up water to get steam.
3. Steam is used to turn the turbines.
4. The kinetic energy from movements of the turbines is converted to

   electrical energy by the generator.
5. The electrical energy travels through the wires to homes and cities.
