light of the Pound Pony...

‘Will this view, through these bars, be my last of the world?
A world that doesn’t want me because I am the wrong
size, or shape, or colour... Or perhaps someone just got
bored with me and so I must die, unwanted, in this place?’

Hillside’s work to bring horses and ponies like Copper
to safety from various stray horse pounds around the
UK has taken us to the brink of what we can do. Since
2012, we have rescued over 1300 unwanted horses and
ponies and there are now over 2000 in our care and we
remain determined not to let these forgotten animals perish
miserably as society’s dirty throwaway secret. The plight of
these poor animals, often rounded up in herds, is rarely
reported, but their lives are worth no less than than any
other horse and we will do everything we can to help them.
However, the sheer logistics of looking after so many has
driven us to find innovative ways of providing their feed and
care which you can read about on page 23.

Hard work and forward thinking have helped us to save the
lives of hundreds of animals like Copper, but it is only with
the ongoing kindness of our supporters that it can be a
lasting reality.
