Urgent Water Appeal...
During the summer months, many of our horses and cows spend their time out
to grass where they can often drink from clear running streams. However, on
different fields, staff were increasingly spending more of their time carting water
bowsers around filling up the animals' water containers to ensure that, during
the hot weather, they always have plenty to drink.
Most of our paddocks already have automatic drinking troughs which keep
topped up no matter how much water is needed but, many of our newly
acquired fields did not yet have these installed. To save much time and money,
thanks to our supporters, work is in progress to automatically provide all our
animals with the most essential element of life - free flowing water at all times...
Below, a new tractor ready for work at Hillside... Sanctuary Equipment Appeal...
It wasn’t a usual appeal where we urge supporters to donate in order to save
lives or feed hungry animals, but it was vital to enable us to continue with the
care of so many animals already in the sanctuary.
With 1300 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys, 300 cows and 600 sheep and
goats alone, supporters may not realise how much equipment is required to
provide the massive quantities of food and bedding needed each and every day,
especially in the winter, to satisfy the animals’ basic requirements.
Following our appeal we were very grateful to be able to acquire two new
tractors which will help us immensely. However more equipment is always
needed and already we find ourselves looking for a JCB to help us regularly top
up the straw pads in the winter to keep the animals warm and dry.
