There was a Colonel Swan
who bought the island in 1786
but look closely at the map of the island,
turn it sideways and it does indeed look like a swan.

Swan’s Island the ring, like a swan, has a slender neck leading up to the center diamond. These slender swan sides make this our most graceful solitaire.
