First Tee – Tampa Bay
Age: 22
Years in First Tee: 6
College: King University | Cell & Molecular Biology
What are you doing today?
I am currently pursuing a PhD in biochemistry at Texas A&M. Once I graduate I will be able to get a job in research and hopefully be the head of my own lab.
What impact did First Tee have on your life?
First Tee - Tampa Bay got me out of my comfort zone. I was able to meet new people and engage with people who loved golf as much as I did. When I first started playing golf it was hard to meet kids my age that played golf since it is not the most popular sport. I was able to make friends that enjoyed the game as much as I did. First Tee challenged me to become a better person while becoming a better golfer.
What is your favorite memory from your First Tee – Tampa Bay experience?
My favorite memory from First Tee was when I played in an alternate shot tournament with Peter Jacobsen. I was really nervous to start the day but once we started playing I had so much fun. Peter made jokes with me and taught me a trick for how to calm down on the tee box by tossing the ball up and trying to catch it on the back of your hand.
How did First Tee – Tampa Bay equip you to take on new experiences or challenges?
It taught me to take on new experiences with confidence in myself. The whole First Tee program is so supportive no matter what someone’s goal is, even if it is as simple as making a par on the next hole. The more time I spent in First Tee the more
I learned how important it is to be confident when facing new things, whether it’s a new golf course or going to start college.
First Tee challenged me to become a better person and golfer.
