►The plant's root absorb the water and nutrients from soil then water and nutrients
move up the stem through xylem (vessels) into the leaves.
1. Roots:
►Functions of the plant roots:
•Roots fix (anchor) the plant in the soil.
•Roots absorb (draw) water and nutrients from the soil, which are needed to make food of
plants.
►Plant roots have hair like features called root hairs (G.R)
To increase the amount of absorbed water and nutrients that the plant needs.
•What happens if…..?
-The plant doesn't have roots.
The plant can’t absorb water from the soil and also can’t be fixed in the soil.
2. Stems:
►Functions of the plant stem:
•Stem transports water and nutrients to the rest of the plant through xylem
•Stem Supports leaves and flowers of the plant.
►There are many forms of stems.
•Some plants have wood stem, such as tree trunks and shrubs.
Apple trees have wood stems
•Most of the flowers have upright stems.
•Some plants have a Climb stem, such as vines (grapes)
•Some stems extend underground and they are called tubers, such as potato plant.
•Some stems extend above and along the ground and they are called runners.
