Understanding the Differences.
The fundamental difference between a College and a University are the meaning and concept of a
college and university differs in various English speaking countries. In Canada, they are different
institutions. Universities offer different types of programs compared to colleges. Canadian
Universities basically focus on professional and academic programs. On the other hand; the
primary focus of the colleges is on career training and trades.
The fact of the matter is that colleges equip the students with the fundamental skills and knowledge
about a specific subject or trade. The students can apply for some entry level and middle level jobs
after the completion of a college program. If a student prefers a career that demands hands on
training instead of academic training, he/she has to choose a college. Universities focus more on
academic studies and professional training. If the focus of a student is to widen the horizon of
his/her own knowledge and take a professional degree, he/she needs to select a university.
