Resources for Spring Lesson 11: When I Grow Up
Activity: ‘This is the Way’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush’)
“You can pretend to be a grown up now!” Sing the whole song two times and perform actions as indicated by the lyrics as you do so. For “stay up late”, do lots of stretching and yawning actions before lying down to go to sleep and snore.
This is the way I’ll shave my beard, shave my beard, shave my beard, This is the way I’ll shave my beard when I am a grown up.
This is the way I’ll drive the car, drive the car, drive the car, This is the way I’ll drive the car when I am a grown up.
This is the way I’ll walk to work, walk to work, walk to work, This is the way I’ll walk to work when I am a grown up.
This is the way I’ll reach up high, reach up high, reach up high, This is the way I’ll reach up high when I am a grown up.
This is the way I’ll cook the dinner, cook the dinner, cook the dinner, This is the way I’ll cook the dinner when I am a grown up.
This is the way I’ll stay up late, stay up late, stay up late, This is the way I’ll stay up late when I am a grown up.
Lie down, pretend to go to sleep and make loud snoring sounds.
Other Ideas!
Ask your child what other things they’d like to do and what sort of a job or jobs they’d like to have when they grow up, and use their ideas to make up new verses.
