Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: ‘Yes We Can’ written by Unknown

* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the penguin laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is this animal called?”
b) “Where do penguins live (e.g. at the zoo and/or most penguins live in the cold,
but some live in warmer places and/or they spend half their time on land and
half their time in the sea)?”
c) “What sound do they make?”
d) “Let’s all make a penguin sound and move our whole bodies like penguins!
e) Ask a volunteer to suggest another animal (using upper body) that lives in the
cold. You act out being the suggested animal and the children copy you. Repeat
using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Penguin Song’ (traditional camp song)
Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Perform the song once with the children, using actions as described below. There is no need to teach the children any of the words or actions as it’s so repetitive. Simply start the song and the children will naturally follow you. This is a very silly song and should have the children in stitches at the end!
Chorus:
Have you ever seen a penguin come to tea?
When you look at me a penguin you will see!
PENGUINS ATTENTION! (stand up straight with arms by sides) PENGUINS BEGIN! (salute)
Right flipper (flap right arm)
