15. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘Let It Go’ performed by Idina Menzel
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“Put your hand up if you can tell me which magic power Queen Elsa has... I’m going to give everyone a magic
scarf to give us ice powers just like Elsa. When we swish our scarves things turn to ice.” Hand each child a coloured scarf and practice the tricky moves (including the bridge for 5-6s).
During the bridge where Elsa builds the ice castle, 3 - 4s should all pretend to be Elsa and do the freezing and melting as in the video. 5 - 6s perform the following choreography. The birthday girl is Elsa in the middle. The other children go into the four corners of the room and wait (the children will probably need to practice dancing in the middle then finding their corner several times). You stay with 'Elsa' in the middle. The children in the four corners dance. You and Elsa say “freeze” as you swish your scarves towards the first corner and the children in that corner freeze. Repeat for the other three corners. The first corner will be during the lyrics “my power flurries through the”. The next corner is “air into the ground”. The next corner is “my soul is spiralling in”. And the final corner is “frozen fractals all around”. Then go to each corner at double speed for the remaining lyrics to 'melt' the children so they dance again.
Play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
16. CHASING GAME*: ‘Catch the Frozen Trolls!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’)
“Now, Kristoff has a very strange sort of family doesn’t he? Does anyone know what type of magical creatures they are? Today you’re going to learn how to be like real Frozen trolls. I am the teacher and you are my students. Follow me.” Sing the song acapella and perform the actions as indicated by the lyrics
“Every Frozen troll must know how to roll.”
The Frozen trolls are rolling, the Frozen trolls are rolling, the Frozen trolls are rolling, in the troll class.
“Every Frozen troll must know how to hide.”
The Frozen trolls are hiding, the Frozen trolls are hiding, the Frozen trolls are hiding, in the troll class.
“Every Frozen troll must know how to dance.”
The Frozen trolls are dancing, the Frozen trolls are dancing, the Frozen trolls are dancing, in the troll class.
“Now I’m going to chase you and see how many trolls I can catch!” Chase the children as you sing the final verse.
The troll teacher is chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next troll teacher. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next troll teacher that when you sing “The troll teacher is chasing” they must catch as many trolls as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next troll teacher (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
17. MUSICAL BUMPS: ‘Show Yourself’ performed by ‘Idina Menzel & Evan Rachel Wood’
Ask the children if they know the game ‘Musical Bumps’. Tell them we’re going to play a game just like it. “Does anyone know what animal Elsa rides through the ocean in Frozen 2? That’s right, an ice horse!” Tell the children that as the music plays they’re going to ride their ice horses all around the room (demonstrate as you say this) but when the music stops it means a giant wave is coming and they must jump down under the water and shout ‘splash!’ as quickly as they can (demonstrate jumping down and curling up as you say this). Do not eliminate children or make anyone ‘out’. Rather, tell them that you will be watching carefully and if they jump down under the water when the music stops, then they will all get some magic sparkles at the end of the party! Play the track and the children gallop all around the room. Pause the music sporadically and the children jump down to the floor with a ‘splash!’. At the end of the game, congratulate the children on doing a great job and tell them they’ve all won some magic sparkles that you will give them at the end of the party.
NB: The track starts slowly. Tell the children to ride ‘slow horses’ at the start and then ‘fast horses’ as it builds up. Don’t start pausing the music until 1:05 when the tempo picks up.
