Lesson plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles
See weekly drama activity break down for video and instructions. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: Name Game
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions. Remember the theme of the name game changes each term.
* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the suitcase laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “Who can tell me what this is?”
b) “When do we use a suitcase?”
c) “Put your hand up quietly if you’d like to demonstrate the sound that is made when
you open and close a suitcase?” Choose one volunteer to demonstrate.
d) “Let’s all take out a suitcase and unzip it to see what’s inside.” Everyone unzips their
suitcase at the same time and makes a zip sound.
e) “There’s a bright red hat in my suitcase!” Take an imaginary hat out of your suitcase
and put it on your head. Ask a volunteer to take something out of their suitcase and tell you what it is. You act out using the named item (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘I’d Like to Go on Holiday’ written by Lucy Milan Davis
Tap your thighs to the pulse as you say the spoken parts and then perform actions as indicated by the lyrics for the sung parts.
(spoken) I’d like to go on Holiday, Somewhere that I can play.
I’d like to go on holiday, Somewhere far away.
I’d like to go to the beach today!
(sung) I like swimming at the beach, I like swimming at the beach,
I like swimming at the beach,
On my holiday.
