altering the lyrics accordingly (e.g. Three dinosaurs went out to play...). Repeat three more times, adding a new dinosaur finger puppet each time. When there are five on top sing:
Five dinosaurs went out to play,
On a bright and sunny day.
They had such ginormous fun,
But there weren’t anymore dinosaurs to come. One, two, three ROAR!
Say, “Oh no, there’s no more dinosaurs! I know, I’ll see if they want to play with all my other toys!”
Then place as many soft toys and finger puppets as you have on top (so there are up to about 20 all together) and sing the final verse again.
7. MUSICAL STATUES: ‘Shake It Off’ performed by Taylor Swift
a) Ask the children if they know the game Musical Statues. Tell them that they’re going to play
a game a little bit like Musical Statues and that if they can beat you to win, you will give
them all a Haribo treat.
b) Explain that they are going to be friendly dinosaurs and you are going to give them each a
dinosaur egg (egg shaker) to protect.
c) When the music plays they must march their dinosaur eggs back to their nests (demonstrate
as you tell them). When the music stops, it means the T-Rex is coming. The children must freeze and be really still and quiet (demonstrate freezing) so the T-Rex can’t hear them and steal their eggs. “If everyone is really quiet and still when the music stops, you will all win a Haribo treat.”
d) “I am going to turn into the T-Rex every time the music stops.”
e) Give each child a dinosaur egg (egg shaker)
f) Play ‘Shake it Off’ and the children march around the room and shake their dinosaur eggs.
g) Pause the music and pretend to be the T-Rex. The children freeze. You get grumpy because
they’ve managed to escape you. “I’ll get you next time!” Try to be as silly as you can to
make the children laugh.
h) Repeat several times until you confess that the dinosaurs have beaten you and delivered the
dinosaur eggs back to their nests. You cry and say “I want my mummy!”
i) Walk away and when you turn back you are no longer the T-Rex. Tell the children that you’ve turned back into Dino Sparkles, congratulate them and tell them you will give them
their Haribo prize before you go home.
8. ACTION SONG OR POEM: ‘All Around the Swamp’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’)
Reveal one of your dinosaur masks (e.g. the Brachiosaurus), tell the children its name and an interesting fact about it. For ease, choose facts that are linked to the song (e.g. the Brachiosaurus was friendly and only ate plants and vegetables and not other dinosaurs). Encourage the children to say the dinosaur’s name with you three times. Repeat for each dinosaur mask.
Sing the song acapella performing actions as indicated. Take out the appropriate mask at the beginning of each verse to see if the children can remember the dinosaur’s name.
The Pterodactyl’s wings went flap, flap, flap, Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap.
The Pterodactyl’s wings went flap, flap, flap, All around the swamp.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex went grr, grr, grr, Grr, grr, grr, grr, grr, grr.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex went grr, grr, grr, All around the swamp.
The Triceratops' horns went poke, poke, poke... The Brachiosaurus went munch, munch, munch... The Stegosaurus' tail went spike, spike, spike... All the dinosaurs went zzz, zzz, zzz...
