Activities for public classes with parents/carers
Tell the babies that with the help of the grown ups they are going to make rainbows. But first they need to “catch the colours from the sky”. Play the track. You stand up and float a colour (scarf) down to each of them one at a time. Once everyone has a colour the grown ups help the babies to throw them up into the sky and catch them again. Do this several times. "Now all of the colours are in the sky we can make rainbows." The adults help the children to draw rainbow shapes with their scarves in time with the pulse. Once everyone is drawing beautiful rainbows you create bubbles for the babies to pop. The adults can continue to draw rainbows to create a nice atmosphere.
Activities for ELCs and pre-schools Same as for Gymnopedie No. 1
Same as for pre-schoolers activity one only
1. Explain to the children that they are going to make a rainbow. But that first they need to “catch the colours from the sky”. Play the track. The children lie on their backs with their eyes open and you float a colour (scarf) down to each of them one at a time. Once everyone has a colour the children sit up and throw them up into the sky and catch them. Do this several times. "Now all of the colours are in the sky we can make a rainbow." Lead the children in drawing rainbow shapes with their scarves in time with the music.
2. Take out your magic wand and turn all of the scarves into magic paint brushes. "1, 2, 3, abracadabra!" Play the track and hand each child a magic paint brush. The children can use their magic paint brushes to do whatever they like. They can write their name, draw their favourite picture or even paint a car or house. They can do this standing or sitting. You move around the room questioning each child on their creation and praising them.
