1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles
Play the track and perform actions as indicated by the lyrics. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: ‘Yes We Can’ written by Unknown
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the food market laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “Who can tell me what’s in this picture?”
b) “Put your hand up if you’d like to tell me the name of a food you can see.” Listen
to answers from three volunteers.
c) “What sound do we make when we eat?”
d) “Let’s all pretend to eat.” You lead the children in miming eating something and
making the sound as you do so.
e) Ask a volunteer to name their favourite food. You act out eating the named food
(using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more
volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Chop, Chop’ (traditional)
a) “My favourite food is fruit salad. Let’s make some now. First we need a giant bowl.”
Mime taking out a giant bowl and the children should naturally copy you. Ask a
volunteer to suggest a fruit to include.
b) “Now we need to chop up our fruit!” Make your left hand the chopping board (flat
palm facing up). Mime placing the suggested fruit on top of the chopping board. On the first, second and fourth lines of the rhyme, use your right hand to chop the fruit to the pulse. On the third line (“What we have left...”), brush the chopped-up fruit into the bowl to the pulse. During the final section (“Stir it round...”), make a stirring action to the pulse. Have a taste. “I think we need more fruit!” Ask a volunteer to suggest another fruit to include.
c) Repeat activity b several times, experimenting with using a baby knife for smaller fruits (saying the rhyme quickly with small, quick movements) and a sword for bigger fruits (saying the rhyme slowly with big, slow movements).
