Summer Dance Lesson 11: Getting Ready For the Day Two
Activity: ‘I Know How to Brush My Teeth’ (author unknown)
The children are sitting in a circle. Say the rhyme and perform the actions with the imaginary parachute. Say the rhyme and perform the actions with the real parachute twice. Place a ‘tooth’ fairy doll on top and repeat twice. Take the fairy off the parachute and invite children to hide under in groups of three as you say the rhyme.
I know how to brush my teeth, (move parachute from side to side) I brush on top and underneath. (lift parachute up then down)
Up like a rocket, (stand up and lift up parachute)
Down like a plane, (crouch down and hold parachute against the floor)
Back and forth like a choo-choo train. (move parachute forwards and backwards)
Other Ideas!
Perform the rhyme without the parachute. Ask the children to help you come up with some actions to go with it! Try to use the whole body (instead of coming up with seated actions). E.g. stretch up as high as you can on tippy toes for “up like a rocket”.
