 Summer Music Lesson 13
Activity: ‘The Shakers in the Band’ sung to the traditional tune of The Wheels on the Bus
Babies and Toddlers:
1. Percussion instruments are played every time you say the sound the instrument makes. E.g. Shake, ding or boom.
2. Make up new verses about the specific instruments you have given the children.
3. Experiment with loud, soft, fast and slow bands.
Pre-schoolers:
1. Activities one and two are same as for babies and toddlers except the children help to decide which sound each instrument makes. E.g. shake, bank, ding, book, jingle etc.
2. Sing about instruments that the children are not playing. E.g. drums and violins. Take suggestions from the children.
3. Same as for babies activity three.
Lyrics:
The shakers in the band go shake, shake, shake, Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.
The shakers in the band go shake, shake, shake, All day long.
The bells in the band go ding, ding, ding...
The drums in the band go boom, boom, boom...

To create a sound through banging, shaking or tapping, to explore the sounds of different musical instruments and to touch instruments to explore their texture
