Page 3 - Dinosaur 2 hours
P. 3

You: (sung) Which dinosaur do you wish for? (to the birthday boy/girl the first time) (you may need to give some more suggestions)
Child: (spoken) I wish for a Triceratops. (the child invents their own wish)
You: (spoken) Now, let’s all say “One, two, three abracadabra”!
All (spoken): One, two three, abracadabra! (the children wave their imaginary wands)
Repeat several times as above, except for at the end of each verse when you ask the children to put their hand up if they would like to make a wish. You then sing “Which dinosaur do you wish for?” to a child that has their hand up. If you have more than ten children, you could try asking a few children at a time (at the end of each verse before saying “one, two, three abracadabra”) to speed up the activity. If you have more than 20 children you can ask everyone that hasn’t had a turn to shout their suggestion at once.
6. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE ONE: ‘Walk the Dinosaur’ written by Was (Not Was) and performed by The Tin Lids
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“Now I’m going to teach you a silly dance about taking your pet dinosaur for a walk!” Go through the tricky moves then play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
7. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH TOY/S ON TOP: ‘One Dinosaur Went out to Play’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Five Little Ducks’)
“Now it’s time for us to play with the parachute! But first we’re going to practice with the imaginary one. If everyone listens really well and does a good job of practising then I’ll take the real one out.” Sing the song acapella and move the imaginary parachute as instructed below.
One dinosaur went out to play, (move parachute from side to side to the pulse) On a bright and sunny day. (as above)
He had such ginormous fun, (as above)
That he called for another dinosaur to come. (as above)
One, two, three ROAR! (gently lift the parachute up a little three times for each number, then lift it up high quickly as you say “dinosaur” flinging the puppet/s high up into the air)
Take out the real parachute and place one dinosaur finger puppet on top. Sing the song again, moving the real parachute as instructed. Place another dinosaur finger puppet on top of the parachute. “How many are there now?” Count out loud with the children. Repeat the activity, altering the lyrics accordingly (e.g. Two dinosaurs went out to play...). Repeat three more times, adding a new dinosaur finger puppet each time. When there are five on top sing:
Five dinosaurs went out to play,
On a bright and sunny day.
They had such ginormous fun,
But there weren’t anymore dinosaurs to come. One, two, three ROAR!
Say, “Oh no, there’s no more dinosaurs! I know, I’ll see if they want to play with all my other toys!”
Then place as many soft toys and finger puppets as you have on top (so there are up to about 20 all together) and sing the final verse again.
8. MUSICAL STATUES: ‘Shake It Off’ performed by Taylor Swift
a) Ask the children if they know the game Musical Statues. Tell them that they’re going to play
a game a little bit like Musical Statues and that if they can beat you to win, you will give them
all a Haribo treat.
b) Explain that they are going to be friendly dinosaurs and you are going to give them each a
dinosaur egg (egg shaker) to protect.
c) When the music plays they must march their dinosaur eggs back to their nests (demonstrate
marching as you tell them). When the music stops, it means the T-Rex is coming. The children must freeze and be really still and quiet (demonstrate freezing) so the T-Rex can’t hear them and steal their eggs. “If everyone is really quiet and still when the music stops,
you will all win a Haribo treat.”
