Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

Play the track and perform actions as in the video. Make sure to use lots of energy! * Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Moody Cat

“It’s time for us to be moody cats.” Perform the activity, as shown in the video, three times.

3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Butterfly Waltz’ performed by Brian Crain
Tell the children that today they are going to travel to Danceland on butterfly feet. “Butterflies are very light and quick, so our feet need to be light and quick too.” Demonstrate to the children how to stand on tippy toes and then how to run on tippy toes on the spot. Play the track and the children follow you as you run on butterfly feet (without butterfly arms at this stage) to Danceland. When you are ready to finish, gradually turn down the music and congratulate the children on arriving at Danceland. * Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing acapella:
Let’s make a circle, A circle, a circle. Let’s make a circle, Here today.
Repeat until everyone is in a circle. Please use this song every time you need the children in a circle throughout the lesson.
“Does anyone know which season we are in now?”. If none of the children answer, ask them to choose from summer, autumn, winter or spring. Ask volunteers to tell you what happens in the spring (e.g. it starts to get a bit warmer, bears that hibernate start to wake up, lots of animals have babies, flowers start to grow and the trees grow leaves again etc.). Lead the group in quickly acting out each suggestion whilst sitting.

5. Fine motor skills: ‘Five Little Flowers’ (tune of ‘Ten Green Bottles’, traditional)

Reveal the flower laminate from your sparkly magic bag. “And now our fingers are going to be dancing flowers.” Perform the song (as shown in the video) using your right hand. Repeat using your left hand.
