Next, ask half the class to sing and strum and half the class to sing and tap their ukuleles. Repeat until most of the children are playing relatively in time and then switch (so that everyone has a turn of strumming and everyone has a turn of tapping).
Ask for two volunteers to perform as a “duet”. One child taps and sings whilst the other strums and sings. Repeat until each child in the class has had a turn of either tapping or strumming as part of a duet.
10. Let of Steam! (5 mins): ‘Here We Go Up and Down’ adapted from lyrics by Wendy
Prevezer & Alison Street & music adapted from 'March of the Mods' by Tony Carr
The children stand in a circle holding the parachute and perform the actions written below as they sing.
Here we go up and down and up and down and, (moving parachute up and down in time with the pulse, corresponding with the words)
‘Round and ‘round and ‘round and ‘round and, (walking the parachute around in a circle)
In and out and in and out. (moving arms in and out in time with pulse as you grip the parachute) Here we go again. (parachute is still)
Whee! (lifting parachute high up into the air)
Next, choose two children to run under the parachute and switch places during the “whee” at the end. Make it clear whose turn it is and when you want them to run. Sing the song and the two children switch places at the end. Repeat until everyone has had a turn.
