P. 1
Resources for Summer Lesson 1: Going on Holiday
Activity: ‘I’d Like to Go on Holiday’ written by Lucy Milan Davis
Tap your thighs to the pulse as you say the spoken parts and then perform actions as indicated
by the lyrics for the sung parts.
(spoken) I’d like to go on Holiday, Somewhere that I can play.
I’d like to go on holiday, Somewhere far away.
I’d like to go to the beach today!
(sung) I like swimming at the beach, I like swimming at the beach,
I like swimming at the beach,
On my holiday.
“So we’ve been to the beach. Where else can we go on holiday?” Choose a volunteer to name a place. E.g. Africa. Say the poem again, inserting the name of the suggested place into the last line.
(spoken) I’d like to go on Holiday, Somewhere that I can play.
I’d like to go on holiday, Somewhere far away.
I’d like to go to Africa today!
Ask a volunteer to tell you what activity they would like to do in Africa and make up a new verse about that activity. E.g. going on safari.
(sung) I like going on safari, I like going on safari,
I like going on safari,
On my holiday.
Repeat three more times, using ideas from different volunteers each time.
Other ideas!
Once you have finished the singing activity above, show the children some photos of the places you have just sung about. Then, lead the children in acting out going to all of those places.
