a) Using your forearms and tummies, wiggle across the floor from one side of the room to the other as caterpillars (scarves as caterpillars’ colourful tummies).
b) When you get to the other side of the room, find some leaves to munch (scarves
as leaves).
c) Draw large circles in the air with your scarves to spin your cocoons (scarves as
cocoons).
d) “It’s time for us to go to sleep. When we wake up, we will be beautiful butterflies!”
Wrap the cocoon (scarf) around your shoulders and lie down to sleep.
e) Once everyone is lying down, all count to ten then wake up.
f) Break through the cocoon by pushing through the scarf. Tell the children “You
are all now beautiful butterflies!”
g) Gently stand up with both arms out to the side as wings (scarf in one hand as a
wing). Practise going up and down on your toes a few times then run around the room on tippy toes as butterflies. Suggest flying up high, down low and in circles. Try stopping and changing directions because “we’re going the wrong way!”
h) “It’s time for the butterflies to rest. Let’s go back to sleep again.” Sit down and hold scarves to one side of head as pillows and gently rock to the pulse.
