Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See summer lesson one. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Moody Cat See summer lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Indiana Jones (Main Theme)’ performed by Richard Hayman & The Philharmonic Rock Orchestra
“Today I’m going to take you on an exciting adventure to Danceland!” Play the track and lead the children on the following journey.
NB: This activity takes the children through all the locomotor movements they have learnt in their LS&F dance lessons throughout the year.
a) Walk down the street (walking), over a mountain (stretch up high on tippy toes walking) and under a bridge (crouch down low walking).
b) All of a sudden you spot some soldiers in a marching parade so decide to join them (marching).
c) At the end of the parade there is a train. You all get on board and move around the room making various train sounds (train motion.
d) You get off the train at the last stop. There is a frozen lake. Everyone puts on their ice skates and skates across the frozen lake (sliding).
e) Once you’ve crossed the lake you take off your skates and put on your riding boots. Everyone finds a horse to ride and gallops towards a pirate ship. Every now and then there are fences that you must jump over (galloping).
f) When you arrive at the pirate ship you climb off your horse and board the ship. Everyone moves like a one-legged pirate around the ship (hopping).
g) You arrive at Danceland and skip off the ship (skipping).
h) When the music slows down, (approximately 2:10 on the track), you notice a
ginormous wall. You all turn into butterflies and fly over it (butterfly runs).
i) At last, you have reached your destination! Gradually turn down the music and
congratulate the children on arriving at Danceland.
* Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in summer lesson one.
Ask a child to suggest something that they do in the morning to get ready for the day (e.g. make the bed, have breakfast, clean teeth, wash face, get dressed etc.).
