About our competent person support service.
Firstly, what is a competent person in the eyes of the Health and Safety Executive.
A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that allow them to assist you properly. The level of competence required will depend on the complexity of the situation and the particular help you need.
Our Competent Person Support Service is designed to do exactly what is “says on the tin” – provide support guidance and advice to your health and safety appointed competent person, helping to assist you in meeting your HS&E objectives and the health & safety laws applicable to your business activities.
Why a support package?
Our experience within Health, Safety, and the Environment has highlighted situations across different organisations, whereby individuals are tasked with / or undertake activities that are not within there level of competency, which from a health, safety and environmental perspective this can lead to for example legislative noncompliance, accidents, business interruption, intervention from the enforcing authorities.
The competent people in our team have sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that allow them to assist you properly. The level of competence required will depend on the complexity of the situation and the particular assistance you need. The one thing you can rely on is that we have people who have worked at senior and operational level.
Example question from an in house appointed competent person.
I have been requested to review part of our activities, a chemical plant that provides an etching and cleaning process for our metal pressing operations. I am not a Chemist or Process Engineer, I do not know where to start, what information and support are you able to help with this situation?
In the case above one of our senior HS&E consultants was able to support, advise and provide tools on areas such as, Hazard operability studies, Operational Risk Assessments, including, COSHH Assessments, Policies, Arrangements and Procedures that was and still is applied to their business.
