Short Interviews with the WDS judges Cesare Calcinati (Italy), SW, KW, Junior BIG
– How did you like the quality in your ring in general?
– The quality in SW was good in general with good expressions of the breed regarding the type, movement and temperament; even the quality of coat in general was excellent. In KW, there were some problems about sizes, even if before the show I was sure that the problem could be bigger, and at the bigger number of dogs. What I can say is that Russian breeders worked hardly and smartly on wire-haired varieties, and got fantastic results in breeding.
– Which were the most typical faults and prob- lems in the breeds which you judged?
– Angulations in general; some cases of “horses procession” and terrier type dogs, but this is the main problem everywhere I judge;
attractive dogs in the ring about movement, but absolutely not typical. And in wires, the rear angulations are not so nice in general, as in smooths.
– How did you like the line-up in Junior BIG?
– I liked this Junior BIG competition very much; if each of them is the future of Dachs- hunds, we can say we are on right way! Types, sizes, expressions were typical in all the vari- eties.
– Which were the reasons why you preferred this certain dog?
– Perfect in size, fantastic head and expres- sion, excellent balance. But what I want to say is that I was very much pleased to find a real- ly functional, beautiful, sound, well moving dog, with charisma and character. I loved this Dachshund!
Horst Kliebenstein (Germany), BIG
– How did you like the line-up in the group in Moscow, and why did you choose that certain dog?
– The line-up in Moscow was really of top quality, and it was the result of good judgements in our breeds. That’s why my choice was not so easy. I took that wire male because for his age he was in excellent condition and moved very well, and when I looked over the dogs for the first view, he
“said” to me: “Hey, man, I am the winner!” Then I touched them and made the selection, and when they moved, it became clear: he is my favourite for the day! I hope he will be also successful as the producer, and the breeders can have good puppies from him. But the other dogs were really ex- cellent either. From the place II to the place V you could easily change the dogs, and nobody would say that you did wrong, because by the quality they were very close to each other. When the competition is so strong, it’s always a pleasure to judge the group!
