JUDGE’S NOTES

I have to say that I was really pleased when I got the invitation to judge at the biggest Teckel Speciality show of the Spanish Teckel Club in Valladolid.
This was a great chance to meet Spanish Teckel and their breeders and owners for the first time in Spain directly. I met several of them before at big dog events in Europe and all over the world in person, many of them on FB. That’s why I was curious to judge at this show, and why I was happy to see more of Spanish breeding, also because some of the Spanish dogs are related to my breeding.
It made me happy that there was a large number of entries for this event. The quality of the dogs in my ring was very high. I really liked my BOBs, Club Winners and Junior Club Winners, which I think can be very competitive at the most important shows in Europe and in the whole world. I also must say that the decisions about Best Male / Best Female were not so easy, as dogs placed on first positions were usually of a very high level.
I really admired the kind and professional behaviour of most of the handlers, as well as their handling skills. In general, the dogs did behave very well in the ring, and were well prepared for the show. I almost didn’t have any fearful or aggressive dogs; most of them were very balanced in character and very relaxed, which is really important. I would also like to add that the quality in the classes was pretty balanced, without big “extremes”.
I must say that there are many smart and ambitious breeders in Spain. They make good combinations, import dogs from abroad and invest a lot of time, e ort and money in this hobby. They show a great interest to the breed, and I think they are on the right way in their breeding.
The organization was just perfect! The ring was big enough, and the sta was very professional! Lovely presents for the winners and a friendly atmosphere! Thank you once again for the chance to judge in Spain. I really enjoyed it and will never forget the Spanish hospitality and those lovely dogs. Good luck with your lovely Teckels!
