Why to breed Dachshunds, and why you personally have chosen this breed? How did you feel when breeding Dachshunds?
Oh, it was my own idea in 1952. At that time we only had white Spitz to guard the farm, but my former neighbour had Dachshunds, Mrs Proll at Radewormwald, kennel “vom Drauberg”. My first Dachs- hund was Heidi vom Drauberg, very small, very clever, black and tan Standard Smooth, and I wanted to mate her with a dog from Mr. Matthes, “vom Elfentann” kennel, and I got four puppies and had to give back two to Mrs Proll; this litter was under her kennel name and I had Jutta vom Drauberg. Mr Matthes had only males, and his bitches lived away at di erent farms. He wanted to do this here as well, but I wanted my own. My husband was the member of DTK, and it was his kennel first, “vom Delbrügger Hof”. When I got cancer and was away for six weeks, my husband found all the bills from Dachshund breeding, and when I came back home, I decided to run my own kennel. I transferred all dogs into my name and registered the kennel “Delbrügger’s”. I put my heart and my soul into breeding Dachshunds and pigs.
Which is the best way to breed Dachshunds?
Never breed too close! I imported some dogs from abroad, as Volpone de Sanwill. May be never got such homogenuous lines, but certain type and always beautiful heads... in Dachshunds and in boars! In those days several breeders had really bad diseases in their kennels. Such sad times! I was lucky to keep many dogs on our farm. Most important, if I liked a male, I went there not only with one
