Summer Program Highlights
Top Left: The 23rd annual Neil Semer Vocal Institute in Germany had terrific singers from the United States, England, Germany, Russia, Australia, Iran, Algeria, Holland, and Belgium united in developing their art, giving wonderful concerts, and having a ridiculous amount of fun with faculty members Margaret Singer, Sharolyn Kimmorley, Ylva Kihlberg, and Neil Semer.
Middle Left: Singers from across the country and around the world participated in the Peabody Preparatory and Conservatory’s week- long Classical Singers’ Workshop, culminating in an impressive final recital in Griswold Hall in June 2019. Participants study Italian at the Scuola Dante Alighieri in the morning; have voice lessons, coachings, and rehearsals in the afternoon; and perform in the evenings. Young artists will perform two solo concerts and two operatic scenes programs and be cast as one of the leading roles in Donizetti’s, Rita. To learn more, visit www.musicinthemarche.com.
Middle Right: Berlin Opera Academy’s 2019 Opernfest was
a thrilling presentation of international talent in Berlin this past summer. Though the city’s three main theaters were closed for summer holidays, opera lovers flocked to catch fresh productions of Le nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, and The Crucible performed by young singers representing over 25 different nationalities.
Bottom Right: In addition to opera scenes, stage directing and collaborative pianist internships are a significant component of the Druid City Opera Workshop founded and directed by Paul Houghtaling at the University of Alabama and now celebrating its 10th anniversary season.
