Firefighting Equipment


               Portable firefighting equipment must be installed to meet the requirements of BS5306-8:
               2012, BS5306-3:2017 and BS EN3.

                     For Food stores <200m  in size, a 6lt AFFF & 2kg CO2 Extinguisher should be sited
                       near the front of store kiosk .

                     For Food stores >200m  in size, an additional 6lt AFFF Extinguisher must be fitted for
                                            2
                       every additional 200m  of floor space.
                     No person should have to travel >30m to reach a 6lt AFFF Extinguisher.

                     Additional CO2 type extinguishers should be provided for electrical risks.
                     No person should have to travel>10m to reach a CO2 Extinguisher within electrical

                       risk areas.
                     AFFF has been selected over water type fire extinguishers due to its ‘A’ rated

                       capability, its ‘B’ rated capability, and its inherent dielectric safety for accidental
                       contact with electricity.
                     Fire Blankets are not required in Bakery’s.


                   Extinguishers must be fitted in accordance with BS5306-8.

                         This will include fixing to a wall with suitable brackets so that operating handles
                          are approx. 1m from finished floor level and in conspicuous location such as final
                          exits and staff bases.

                         Where this is not possible, extinguishers must be sited on suitable and
                          conspicuous floor stands.



               All organisations who undertake the installation, commissioning and servicing of portable
               firefighting equipment must be BAFE registered and certified to SP101.
