E20 Formwork for in situ concrete
GENERALLY/ PREPARATION
110 LOADINGS
• Requirement: Design and construct formwork to withstand the worst combination
of the following:
- Total weight of formwork, reinforcement and concrete.
- Construction loads including dynamic effects of placing, compacting and
construction traffic.
- Wind and snow loads.
170 WORK BELOW GROUNDgenerally
• Casting vertical faces against faces of excavation: Not permitted.
- Requirements:
- Increase nominal cover to reinforcement to 75 mm;
- Increase width of section to give nominal cover to reinforcement of 75 mm;
and
- Prevent contamination of concrete by loose soil.
178 FORMATION OF OPENINGS IN COMPOSITE ACTION SLABS
• Generally: Except as otherwise agreed, box out for openings in concrete.
• Forming holes in profiled steel sheet:
- Timing: For openings not trimmed by structural steelwork, do not cut sheet until
concrete reaches 75% of its 28 day strength.
- Method: with cut edges ground off.
185 COMPRESSIBLE BOARD SUBSTRUCTURE FORMWORK
• Type: Low density expanded polystyrene (eps).
• Manufacturer: Contractor's choice.
- Product reference: Agrément certified, contractor's choice.
• Recycled content: Submit proposals.
• Thickness: to suit predicted ground movement.
190 SUBSTRUCTURE FORMWORK FOR GROUND BEAMS AND PILE CAPS
• Manufacturer: Contractor's choice.
- Product reference: Agrément certified, contractor's choice.
• Ground movement accommodation: Compressible boards for lateral movement,
as clause 185.
195 VENTILATED SUBSTRUCTURE FORMWORK
• Manufacturer: Contractor's choice.
- Product reference: Agrément certified, contractor's choice.
• Recycled content: Submit proposals.
• Thickness overall: site specific dependant on thermal requirements.
