H13 Structural glass assemblies
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
211 DESIGN
• Structural glass assembly: Complete the design.
• Related works: Coordinate in the design.
341 WEATHER RESISTANCE
• Air leakage through sealant joints: None.
• Water leakage through the structural glass assembly and perimeter junctions:
None.
391 THERMAL STRESS IN GLAZING SAFETY
• Glass panes and units: Must have adequate resistance to thermal stress generated
by orientation, shading, solar control and construction.
411 ACCURACY OF ERECTION
• Permitted deviation in glass joint width (maximum): ±3 mm.
421 SECURITY
• Threaded assembly fixings and assembly support fixings: Locked or pinned at
completion of structural glazing to prevent rotation due to building movement and
unauthorized adjustment.
475 DAYLIGHT PERFORMANCE
• Daylight calculations: In accordance with BS 8206-2, CIBSE 'Lighting guide LG10'
and BRE 'Site layout guide'.
• BREEAM requirements:
- Submit the following: Daylight performance schedule and Design plans for each
floor in the building with each room/ area labelled for use.
- Calculations showing: Average daylight factor expressed as a percentage for
each room/ area.
480 VIEW OUT
• Glazed areas/ opening sizes and position: Designed to meet BREEAM 'View out'
criteria for relevant building type.
• Submit design plan and elevation drawings showing the following:
- All BREEAM defined 'relevant areas' dependant on building type and room
depths.
- Actual or notional workstation/ desk layouts.
- Glazed/ open areas.
• Submit site plan showing: Building location and proximity to external obstructions.
485 POTENTIAL FOR NATURAL VENTILATION
• Submit design plan and elevation drawings, and calculations confirming the
following:
- Locations of openings;
- Types of glazed areas/ ventilators and total openable areas; and
- Types and degree of user-controls.
