PRELIMINARY INFORMATION/ REQUIREMENTS
110 DESIGN
• Building type of activity/ occupancy category to BS 6399-1: B (Office and work
areas not covered elsewhere) and D (Shopping areas).
• Design standard: The following items have been designed to BS 5395 where
applicable: Stairs, balustrades and handrails.
- Inclusive design: In accordance with BS 8300.
• Completion of design: Finalize details to meet structural, safety and accessibility
requirements/ recommendations of:
- BS 5395;
- BS 8300; and
- BS 9999.
115 TIMBER PROCUREMENT
• Timber (including timber for wood based products): Obtained from well managed
forests and/ or plantations in accordance with:
- The laws governing forest management in the producer country or countries.
- International agreements such as the Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora (CITES).
• Documentation: Provide either:
- Documentary evidence (which has been or can be independently verified)
regarding the provenance of all timber supplied.
- Evidence that suppliers have adopted and are implementing a formal
environmental purchasing policy for timber and wood based products.
• Certification scheme: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
- Other evidence: None.
130 SITE DIMENSIONS
• Procedure: Before starting work on designated items take site dimensions, record
on shop drawings and use to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Designated items: Site specific.
