Introduction
Welcome to the world of Psalm Songs. The RSCM Book of Psalm Songs includes
70 settings of 50 different psalms and canticles to enrich worship across the denominations. They are suitable to be sung at any kind of liturgy or service by soloists, choirs, singing groups and congregations, accompanied by guitar, piano, keyboard or organ, and instruments.
We hope you enjoy singing these settings and exploring the different styles and texts that express many varying themes and emotions. Congregations and singers often find them very moving and personal, identifying with the sentiment and mood of the psalm.

How to sing a Psalm Song
The structure of the Psalm Song settings follows three models:
• Strophic: like a hymn, with the same melody for each verse.
• Songs with refrains and through-composed verses.
• A short response with chanted verses.
The strophic songs can either be sung by everyone all the way through or, for example, by allocating different verses to the choir and/or the congregation.
