11Editorial NoteSource: Edition of c.1880 by Le Bailly, Paris - London, British Library H 1522 (7)In 1872, whilst he was Organist at the Basilique Sainte-Clothilde in Paris, C%u00e9sar Franck wrote Panis Angelicus for Tenor solo with accompaniment for Organ, Harp and %u2018Cello. It was later interpolated into his Mass for Three Voices (Opus 12) of 1860. It appears that Franck never arranged Panis Angelicus for choir, preferring to leave it as a solo movement within the Mass. However, a choral arrangement by L. Michelot was made during Franck%u2019s lifetime and, possibly, with the composer%u2019s approval. Since then, it has become a firm favourite with many choirs. The current editor has tried to remain faithful to Franck%u2019s own arrangement for solo voice with organ accompaniment and has retained the original key of G major.Metronome speed and dynamic markings in brackets are editorial. The use of pedal is optional and such markings are also by the editor.David Patrick, London June 2006
