P. 13
Dear Mrs. Ranum,
I miss you, I miss sitting in my seat and waiting for our lesson, I miss
laughing with the class and being able to talk. I did not have any close friends in
your class, but I still had tons of fun and learned a lot. I did have a couple of
thoughts about switching hours but that would have been too stressful, I am glad I
didn’t. I wouldn’t have learned as much as I did. I wouldn’t have been able to focus.
I recently got a letter about earning a silver president's award in math and I don’t
think I could have gotten or earned anything without you. I am writing this before
the day the call takes place but I hope we get to talk, to say who we dedicate
these to and why. If we do, I would say you. You were a good balance between fun
and work. Not too much fun where we don’t get much done but also not too little
where it’s completely boring. You have taught me so much, like scaled copies and
how to do equations with x. You taught me how to be confident in my answers, in
myself and my abilities.
I cannot believe how short this last school year has felt. It makes me sick
that we will not be students and teachers next year. Why can’t you guys come and
teach us again?! UGH. I don’t know if you got my email to all four basic subject
teachers but I love you, you guys were just so amazing and I hope you are doing
well. I appreciate you guys. It doesn’t feel like we have gotten as much time as the
other years of school. I can’t believe it’s over.
Things that you should keep doing are the introduction circle, everyone
might hate it at the beginning but it gets better as you realise there are others
that feel the same way. It’s essential. It makes things easier. Another thing is,
passing the piece of paper around with your name on it. Personally, I didn’t seem to
like it. It’s not like I had any close friends that were there to write a full message
or to say “your funny” and actually mean it. I felt the kids in my class said things on
my paper that 1- they didn’t mean, 2-they didn’t really know what else to say, and
3-to get it over with… lol. On the other hand, it may save students in the future,
continue doing it!
I don’t think there is really anything you did that I hated or disliked a lot..
One thing though that I wanna say, if one student goes slower than the other, help
the student and let the other go ahead. Personally, I felt held back in your class at
times but that's not your fault. I always wanted to ask you if I could get a head
start on homework and I understand how you said no at some times. You don’t want
people getting too far ahead. But here's one thing about me that is a struggle. I
get done with my work early, I ask if I can do something, they say no. I have to sit
and watch, I then get bored and talk which distracts others, and I end up getting
in trouble. That’s my struggle in some classes and it’s always been my struggle.
