Humans exploit environmental resistance
People use their understanding of environmental resistance to manage populations.
For example:
Predators are eliminated from farm situations.
More food is made available to domestic animals.
Nitrogen fertilisers and artificial light are used to boost plant growth.
Predators may be used to control pests.
Anaerobic conditions or low temperatures are used to prevent populations of
microbes from consuming our food.
Competitors are eliminated from crops using pesticides.
