Tekle found her rejoicing and preparing dinner when he returned.
While Tekle and Erkenesh fasted and prayed at the home of Data Gareno, pastor of the church in Sabore Village, the Lord impressed them, You know My Word; you will be condemned if you do not speedily obey and be baptized in My name.
Tekle thought, Maybe we shouldgo down to the river. I could baptize Erkenesh and she could baptize me.
The Lord impressed him again. Go to the people who sent you the booklet. They will baptize you in My name. Tekle protested, "How can I go to missionaries to be baptized? That will make me a member of their church. You told me not to affiliate with a religious organization, nor to be snared by the money of missionaries to be a hired evangelist. Did You not tell me to wait until Y ou reveal
the right church to me?"
The answer came: This is My church that believes and
teachesthe gospelpreached by the apostles. I have sent My church to Ethiopia with the true message. Go and be baptized.
Before Erkenesh had time to ask how, the Lord who had spoken provided the means for them to go to Addis. The bus left them in the heart of the city; they telephoned Sister Wendell to come and get them. When they told her why they had come, she shouted, "Praise
the Lord!" over and over. Brother Wendell rejoiced great ly with them as they told, step by step, the story of God's leading them to be baptized.
