Q. How should a prescriber choose items for EPS prescriptions?

                 A. For EPS prescriptions, the prescriber should select the item from the dictionary
of medicines and devices (dm+d) at the appropriate actual medicinal product
                        level (AMP).
What are the examples of correctly written EPS special-order items?
The following examples illustrate how special-order items should appear on
                        the EPS:

For a Part VIIIB listed special: Drug Name (Drug Tariff Special Order)
For a Part VIIID listed special: Sucralfate 1g tablets (Part VIIID Drug Tariff
                        Special Order)

For a non-part VIII special: Paracetamol 1g/5ml oral suspension (Special Order)
For a non-part VIII unlicensed import: Icenia Melatonin 3mg capsules
                        (Imported (Bulgaria))

                 Q. What should be done if the 100/100
product is not listed on the dm+d?
                                                                                              Dissolve Tablets
                                                                           £3.33 Melatonin 5mg Fast
                 A. If the product is not listed on the dm+d, it Manufacturer (Special Order)
must be written on a paper prescription.

                  Q. Why is it not acceptable to put "special

order" in the directions of the prescription?

                  A. Including "special order" in the directions of the prescription will
not be reimbursed by the NHSBSA. The special-order designation
must be included in the main body of the prescription.
