How texts and emails can transform patient care
How many hours does your practice spend chasing patients about
collections, reviews, or appointments? Missed calls, voicemails, and
repeat phone conversations can quickly add up, not to mention the
frustration when patients forget to turn up or collect their medicines.
That’s where simple digital tools like text and email reminders can
make a big difference.
Why reminders work
• For patients: A quick ping on their phone or a note in their
inbox makes it easier to stay on top of collections, reviews,
and seasonal health prompts like flu jabs. It’s convenient,
timely, and reduces the chance of medication being missed.
• For your practice: Less time spent chasing means more time
for patient care. Reminders help smooth out workflow, reduce
missed appointments, and strengthen relationships by
showing patients you’re proactively looking out for them.
Getting started
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Most modern PMR and
clinical systems (including EMIS and SystmOne) already have
built-in reminder functionality. To make the most of it:

or appointments.
• Stay compliant: Always make sure patients have opted in and
keep messages professional.
