I was delighted to share with you in September the twelve
principles for a future model of community pharmacy practice
and if you haven’t seen them, have a look back through your
email inbox for an email from the Numark team. We also
included some supporting statements to help bring the steps
to life. You will see that they have been split into four areas.
The first being “core” then “services”, “safety and medicines” and finally we finish
off with “technology”. I think it’s really important that as a community pharmacy
network we start to consider what the future under each of those four headings
could be. I hope you will find that the principles and supporting statements are
a great basis to take things forward. We can build on Pharmacy First, look at
introducing new services and consider how we use and integrate the prescribing
qualification going forward.
I do appreciate that that requires all governments in the UK to fully support the
network and make sure the funding gives you the confidence to continue to invest
in your pharmacies.
These principles help demonstrate our commitment to you contained within our
recently established Numark statement and if you haven’t seen or heard it yet, here
it is.
“Numark is the support organisation for more than 5500
community pharmacies, dedicated to enhancing their
business performance and ensuring the delivery of safe,
effective pharmaceutical care. We maximise our scale to
add value to our pharmacy partners.”
I and your Numark team are focussed on making our statement a reality.
I look forward to a series of articles over the coming magazines that will expand
upon the above principles under the four areas that I’ve highlighted at the start
of my introduction. That will allow us to discuss how each of those sectors will be
delivered in the future.
All the best,
Harry McQuillan
