Category M
The Category M prices for January 2024 have been published by the Department of
Health & Social Care (DHSC). Analysis of the Cat M prices show:
> There will be an overall reduction on like for like products in Cat M of approximately
£35m per quarter.
> New products added to Category M will be reduced by £3m per quarter
> Overall impact on the January 2024 update is the equivalent of -14p per item

Following the January 2024 update to Category M, there are now 661 product in Cat M.
There were 7 products added and 7 products removed as of 1st January.
The products that were removed from Category M were:

The table below shows the new additions to Category M, all of which apart from
Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets (28 pack), have seen a reduction in their reimbursement price.
As you can see from the new additions table, Metformin 1g/Sitagliptin 50mg Tablets
has been added to Cat M in January 2024 and the reimbursement price, which used to
based on the brand (Janumet) price has more than halved.
This is why it is so important to take advantage of any off-patent opportunities that
we tell you about.
5 of the new additions to Cat M have moved from Category C and 1 is from Category
A. Letrozole 2.5mg Tablets in packs of 28 is a brand new addition to the Drug Tariff as
previously only the 14 pack was included.
