Cessation
The estimated number of smokers in the UK is thought to be 14%, or 8 million adults.
Smoking has some very severe health consequences which contribute to many
diseases and premature mortality. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths
in the UK, and it’s estimated that there are around 78,000 deaths per year in the UK
due to smoking related illnesses.
Lung cancer, COPD and cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of
smoking related deaths.
Stopping Smoking
Nicotine replacement therapies are available in multiple formats and provide a low
level of nicotine with out the other nasty chemicals that are present in tobacco smoke.
NRT can help to reduce the unpleasant withdrawal effects such as cravings and bad
moods. Smokers are more likely to be successful in their mission to stop smoking
when using an NRT and may even be more likely to quit if they use a combination of
products, such as a patch alongside a gum or an inhalator.
